The inexplicable
sudden
smell
of flowers in winter:

the kind of thing
you cannot
define or describe,

the way the wind tastes
for a moment
like an old promise

the way familiar patterns,
common words,
the house you grew up in
remind you

not of home

but of some
brief untranslatable fragment,
a song from your childhood,
the taste of the lips of
your lover,

the way
water and oil swirl,
milk and wine
form your blood and your body

a strange mysticism
older than breathing

that cannot
be explained.

Oohhh.... I really like stanzas four through seven... I really like it when poetry help us experience the extraordinariness of the ordinary....

"the way
water and oil swirl,
milk and wine
form your blood and your body"

Beautiful.
